Heavy rains cause serious problems in Azerbaijan’s Kurdamir region

Kurdamir. Shahnazar Bashirov – APA. Heavy rains have flooded about 200 private houses, agricultural and household fields in Kurdamir region of Azerbaijan in the past two days. Deputy executive authority of the region, chairman of the regional emergency commission Vasif Mammadov told APA heavy rains flooded about 200 private houses at the Kurdamir’s Baku, Azerbaijan, Ali Mustafayev, Azizbayov, Sabir, Mammadov streets, Aran residential area and nearby villages of Atakishili and Khirdapay, and filled cellars and household farms with mud. The water level in the household agricultural fields reached one meter. Large pools were created on the streets. The building of local music school was also seriously damaged and schoolyard was flooded. The heavy rains and floods caused serious damages on 60 percent of the territory of Kurdamir town. About 20 villages, riverside residential areas, roads, as well as about 15 000 ha agricultural fields were flooded. Continuous two-day heavy rains created problems for rescue operations. The rain has ceased this morning. Rescuers and vehicles of the water-channel facility, firefighting service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations were sent to the disaster zone. Two firefighting vehicles and 10 pump arrangements are working now in the area to pump out the water from the household yards. Officials of the regional emergency commission visited the disaster areas. The Cabinet of Ministers and the Ministry of Emergency Situations were informed about the disaster.
