Justice Ministryâ€™s Public Committee on Penitentiary System Control re-organized

The committee discussed the work done in the past period and elected human rights defender Alimammad Nuriyev the committeeâ€™s coordinator, APA reports quoting the Justice Ministryâ€™s website.

Minister of Justice Fikret Mammadov spoke about the changes in penitentiary system, protection of human rights of the prisoners, improvement of detention conditions, increasing the transparency and public control in this field, measures taken for correctional activities. Emphasizing the Presidentâ€™s instruction about serious anti-corruption struggle, the Minister specially noted the role of Public Committee, as a representative of civil society, in the struggle against the bribery and other negative cases. The Minister presented special cards to the members of the Public Committee to visit the penitentiaries without barriers.

The new composition of the Public Committee was established last month. Zaliha Tahirova, Chingiz Ganizadeh,c Alimammad Nuriyev, Sahib Mammadov, Elmari Mamishov, Elmira Alakbarova, Saida Gojamanli, Nazir Guliyev and Shahin Jamalov was re-elected to the Committee. Coordinator Alimammad Nuriyev said: â€œIrada Javadova was replaced by Zaur Seyidzadeh, chairman of the Zaur Charity Society. Seyidzadeh is disabled and he was elected for controlling conditions of disabled prisoners. We think that he will contribute to learn the problems of disabled peopleâ€.
