Chiefs of two special institutions of Penitentiary Service, detachment commanders of Guarding Regiment dismissed

Deputy Justice Minister, chief of the Penitentiary Service Nazim Alakbarov spoke about the serviceâ€™s activity in 2010. He said new penitentiary establishments meeting international standards had been built, positive results achieved in maintaining legitimacy in the penitentiary system, strengthening the discipline, control over the subordinated bodies, eliminating shortcomings.
It was noted that the pardon orders issued by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on March 17 and December 29, 2010, were executed in time and properly, 155 prisoners were released, life imprisonment of a prisoner was commuted to 20-year imprisonment. Smuggling of banned items to the prisoners was prevented, AZN 1302, 164.5 l fermented beverage, 740 g drugs, 81 mobile phones were seized and relevant measures were taken. Moreover, it was noted that shortcomings recorded in the activities of several penitentiary institutions during report period in the Council, concrete tasks were given to heads of organizations in order to eliminate of these shortcomings. It was especially noted that inspections and service investigations were conducted superficially in subordinate bodies of Penitentiary Service, and it impeded right assessment of the existing situation. At the same time, related service spheres were demanded to increase effectiveness of paying material loss by prisoners to legal and individuals who suffered the damage during committed crimes. Chiefs of special institutions #1 and #2 of Penitentiary Service - I.Yunusov, A.Mammadov, as well as some detachment commanders of Guarding Regiments were dismissed, several responsible persons were involved to discipline responsibility.
Duties related to issues discussed at Commissionâ€™s meeting held by the chief of Presidential Administration Ramiz Mehdiyev on struggle against corruption on January 27, 2011, were determined according to task of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
