Seven officers of prosecuting authorities killed on the line of duty after Azerbaijan gained independence

The Armenian army units shot down the Mi-8 helicopter carrying officials of Russian Federation and Kazakhstan Republic, state and public figures of Azerbaijan Republic to Nagorno Karabakh on November 20, 1991. State Secretary Tofig Ismayilov, Prosecutor General Ismat Gayibov, state advisor, former Interior Minister Mahammad Asadov, parliamentarians Vagif Jafarov, Vali Mammadov, Deputy Prime Minister Zulfu Hajiyev, spokesman for Presidential Administration Osman Mirzayev, journalists and other officials were killed. Totally 22 were killed in the accident.

Azerbaijan’s prosecutor general Ismat Gayibov is not the only prosecutor killed in the helicopter accident. Prosecutor of Nagorno Karabakh Autonomous Province Plavski Igor Aleksandrovich was also killed in the crash.

Seven officers of the prosecuting authorities have been killed on the line of duty since Azerbaijan gained its independence in 1991. Prosecutor of Samukh region Shamshir Shahlar Aliyev was killed on the line of duty by a criminal gang on June 14, 1993.

Prosecutor of Gubadli region Nizami Agayev and inspector of the region’s prosecutor’s office Eyyub Valiyev were killed on the line of duty and then burned by a criminal gang on August 31, 1993.

Prosecutor of Samukh region Fazail Arikh Huseynov was attacked by a criminal gang on November 21, 1995. Huseynov and his driver were killed.
