Georgia. Nizami Mammadzadeh – APA. Today, Teleti-Koda-Asureti-Akhalkalaki highway has been inaugurated after the major rehabilitation, APA’s bureau in Georgia reports that Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and his spouse Sandra Roelofs attended the opening ceremony of 224 km-long new highway. President Saakashvili himself drove the car till Akhalkalaki. US Ambassador to Georgia John Bass also joined the event.

During his speech, the Georgian President called this day as a historical day. According to him, newly constructed roads covering Kvemo-Kartl-Samjkhe-Javakheti regions will serve the development and integration of peoples residing in both regions. Answering to the questions of Azerbaijani journalists, Saakashvili noted that he was so pleased for the participation of Azerbaijani companies in the construction of this highway: “We are very happy that Azerbaijanis also take part in this project. Azerbaijani companies possess the cutting-edge technical equipment and they can cope with all difficulties. Both German and Dutch companies partake in this project. Azerbaijanis’ capacity to work cannot be compared with anyone else. When I was in Javakhetiya, Georgian citizens of Armenian origin residing there also saw how Azerbaijanis worked. It was not only good work, but also a great gift for further enhancement of relations between the ethnic minorities. Everyone saw here that Azerbaijanis know well how to be friends, how to works and how to help. This project is a symbol of Georgia-Azerbaijan friendship and close strategic cooperation. And I’m so pleased for that”.
