Khanlar Hajiyev: “There are about 50 appeals related to Azerbaijan in the European Court of Human Rights”

Baku. Ramil Mammadli - APA, “Number of appeals of Azerbaijan to the European Court of Human Rights is always changing. Currently, there are about 1000 appeals from Azerbaijan in this institution”, Azerbaijani judge of the European Court of Human Rights Khanlar Hajiyev told journalists, APA reports. He said that much of the appeals to the European Court of Human Rights were from Azerbaijani IDPs: “Other appeals are related to law infrigements committed by law-enforcement bodies and procedure rules in court system. Currently, there are about 50 cases on Azerbaija at the Grand Chamber of the European Court”. As to impact of numerous appeals to the European Court on image of Azerbaijan, Hajiyev noted that this organization was not a political institution: “That is why, we are not talking about any impact on state’s image. The European Court of Human Rights considers cases connected with violations in legal system. I will bring up this issues at this conference devoted to 15th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s Constitution. I think that some people working in court system and law-enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan must eliminate some shortcomings in their activity”.
