Khanlar Hajiyev: â€œThere are about 50 appeals related to Azerbaijan in the European Court of Human Rightsâ€

Baku. Ramil Mammadli - APA, â€œNumber of appeals of Azerbaijan to the European Court of Human Rights is always changing. Currently, there are about 1000 appeals from Azerbaijan in this institutionâ€, Azerbaijani judge of the European Court of Human Rights Khanlar Hajiyev told journalists, APA reports. He said that much of the appeals to the European Court of Human Rights were from Azerbaijani IDPs: â€œOther appeals are related to law infrigements committed by law-enforcement bodies and procedure rules in court system. Currently, there are about 50 cases on Azerbaija at the Grand Chamber of the European Courtâ€. As to impact of numerous appeals to the European Court on image of Azerbaijan, Hajiyev noted that this organization was not a political institution: â€œThat is why, we are not talking about any impact on stateâ€™s image. The European Court of Human Rights considers cases connected with violations in legal system. I will bring up this issues at this conference devoted to 15th anniversary of Azerbaijanâ€™s Constitution. I think that some people working in court system and law-enforcement bodies of Azerbaijan must eliminate some shortcomings in their activityâ€.
