 Inspectors investigating criminal case of Azerbaijani businessman Vugar Khalilov arrested in Kyrgyzstan

The General Prosecutor’s Office of Kyrgyzstan accused them in abuse of authority. Khegay has been arrested, Namazeliyev had been sentenced to home arrest. According to official accusation, the mentioned persons lifted arrest order from banking accounts and property owned by Kurmanbek Bakiyev’s family members and that is why they had been brought to responsibility. It is interesting that, these inspectors accused Khalilov in relations with former president Bakiyev’s family.

Khalilov told APA that district court cleared him off all charges and gave him judgment of acquittal and Bishkek City Court remained valid this decision, thereafter he addressed general prosecutor Baybolov and asked to conduct investigation on Bishkek prosecutor and his assistant: “After I was detained as a witness, these persons violated several articles of the Criminal-Processual Code of Kyrgyzstan. And I think that it means abuse of authority.
Remind that, Vugar Khalilov is a highly experienced journalist, presenter and consultant. Vugar spent seven years in Moscow as Russian correspondent for the BBC World Service. He was a central member of the Kremlin and Russian parliament pool of journalists. In 2002 he joined the BBC World Service in London as a presenter, input editor, and producer for the Russian Service. He was responsible for strategy, planning and development of the service, and he was engaged in the recruitment, training and performance of a team of journalists in Russia and the CIS. During this time, Vugar built relationships with investors, market analysts, the media, and high ranking politicians and NGOs, acting as an ambassador for the Service in the region. In 2006 and 2007, Vugar advised Azerbaijani oil and gas companies on media relations and reputation management in the British media, and also became the lead external relations consultant for senior individuals in the region. He consulted on communications strategies, covering IPOs and M&A activity. Prior to the BBC World Service, Vugar was a correspondent for Radio ‘Liberty’ Moscow, where he interviewed high ranking financial and political officials in Russia, Central Asia and Azerbaijan, covering breaking stories on energy, business, and economic developments in the region.
