Flood crisis in streamside regions of Azerbaijan â€“ <font color=red>PHOTOSESSION </font>

Chairman of the regional emergency commission of Hajigabul Sahib Aslanov told APA that the level of water rose 36 cm. Four excavators, 8 KamAZ trucks and 50 workers were involved in constriction of a dam throughout 46-km river bank. The most serious situation is observed in Khila village of Hajigabul.

Kura River burst its banks in Hajigahramanli, Cilpagli and Bayramli settlements of Shirvan town. Local official Shafayat Asgarov said a dam was built in the territory in 5-6 km of the regional center. The territories around some industrial facilities, gas pumping and thermal power stations. 450 houses were flooded by ground waters. 14 large-scale and 50 small pumps, water pumps of firefighting vehicles and working forces were involved in dam-building and other urgent measures.

As the level of water in the streamway of the Kura river rose much, Salyan region executive power, emergency commission of the region, regional structures of the Ministry of Emergency Situations held a meeting. It has been decided to set up an emergency operations center.
Alongside with the related bodies, other structures in Salyan are building a dam. The level of the river continues to rise. 700 yards have been flooded in Salyan region. The residents of a number of houses have been obliged to move to the houses of their relatives. There are especially serious problems in Babazanli residential district surrounded by the Kura from three sides.

First deputy head of Sabirabad executive power, chairman of the emergency commission Vafadar Bagirov told APA that the situation is critical in a number of villages of the region. 42 KaMAZ trucks, 18 bulldozers, 24 excavators, 4 scrapers and small trucks have been involved in building dam. Compared with the similar situation in the previous years, the level of the Kura is 80-90cm more. The most critical situation in the region is in Gasimbayli village and Novruzlu village of Saatli region that borders on this village. Sabirabad residents say groundwater and leaks from the dams pose threat to Garatogay, Shikhsalahli, Etcheler, Hashimkhanli, Bulgud, Minbashi, Chagirgan, Khancheken and other villages of the region. The residents of the villages are leaving their houses.
