Speakers of Azerbaijani Parliament and State Duma meet in Moscow

The meeting took place at the State Duma was attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Polad Bulbuloglu, chairpersons of the Azerbaijani Parliament’s committees Arif Rahimzadeh, Ali Huseynli, Azerbaijani MPs Ulvi Guliyev, Mikhail Zabelin, Mukhtar Babayev, head of the Parliament's apparatus Safa Mirzayev and Russian MPs.

The sides discussed the prospects for development of relations between the two countries at the parliamentary level, the exchange of experience and information in the field of lawmaking, mutual visits of parliamentarians, further expansion of cooperation between the two countries in various spheres and other issues.

State Duma Speaker Sergey Naryshkin said that Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Russia: “The relations between the two countries are developing rapidly. We – parliamentarians can contribute to interstate relations”.

Naryshkin said the relations between State Duma and the Azerbaijani Parliament are at a high-level: “Mutual visits made by both countries’ parliamentarians every year show the level of the relations. We welcome the activity of the Russian-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary friendship group. We hope our relations will further develop. I would like to note that Russia is interested in expanding and developing strategic relations with Azerbaijan”.

Speaker Ogtay Asadov thanked Sergey Naryshkin for the invitation. Stressing the high-level of Azerbaijan-Russia relations, Asadov stated that both countries’ parliaments have a positive impact on these relations: “Azerbaijan-Russia relations are of great importance. Baku will host the summer session of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly late this month”.
