Ramiz Mehdiyev: â€œUkraine events should be a lesson for every sovereign stateâ€

Mehdiyev said that what happens proves the correctness of the development of Azerbaijan: “Democracy is a long-term and complicated process. Democracy should be strived for accurately. But this action must be careful and detailed. Adventurous and emotional aspiration, forces incited from abroad would never contribute to the establishment of stability and development in the country. We have been studying these lessons for many years. It is obvious that the West took an active part in the tragic processes in Maidan. The Western officials openly incited the destructive forces to illegal actions, participated in protests against the government of Kiev, supported the demonstrators and threatened former president of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych with sanctions. All of these steps can be characterized as flagrant interference in the internal affairs of a sovereign state. The United States and European Union didn’t conceal their efforts for overthrow of President Yanukovych and coming of the forces that meet their interests to the power. They had been preparing for it since early 1990s. Not surprisingly, Department of State Spokesperson Victoria Nuland stated that the U.S. government has spent $ 5 billion to democratic processes in Ukraine since 1991. However, the experience shows that such money is spent on the formation of destructive forces in most cases. Everybody knows what a tragedy caused by the activities of non-governmental organizations and nationalist forces funded by the West in Ukraine.”

Mehdiyev said that at different times the Azerbaijani government received information that certain forces attempted to realize the similar scenarios in our country. “Experts and analysts say that over $3 mln was spent for “Facebook revolution” in the summer of 2013. One should be politically illiterate to know what is behind this so-called “revolution”. The whole Arabian world is before our eyes”.

It is good to assist the restoration of democratic institutions in any country not when the “agents of influence” or “the fifth column” perform task set by special Foreign Service agencies but only when these intentions serve for the interests of the civil society”.

The Head of PA noted that the Maidan incidents have shown that the interference in the internal affairs of countries and pushing them into conflicts with their neighbors lead to tragic results. “It is not allowed to break natural development dynamics and establish the democracy by violent means. It should be understood that democratic transit strategy by means of power will not lead to the development of democratic institutions, on the contrary it will cause new conflicts with unexpected consequences.

Such experiences are always bloody for initiators. Today Ukraine is standing face to face with the threat of loss of statehood, but the West doesn’t take any practical steps for resolution of the conflict. So where are those who call the Ukrainian political and criminal groups for democratic revolution and allocate a great amount of funds for it?” he asked.

The Head of PA called on the Ambassador not to concern about Azerbaijan: “We have long come to necessary conclusion, though not the “bad”. More precisely, we came to these conclusions in 2003 and 2005. History repeats itself, and we once again observe this regularity in the name of Ukraine, which can not for a long time recover itself from today’s nightmare”.
