Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. “Over the past 20 years, Azerbaijan has turned into a country that has invested in other states,” said deputy head of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration and chief of Foreign Relations Department Novruz Mammadov addressing “South Caucasus in a changing world” forum organized by the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
Speaking about the history of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, Novruz Mammadov said that ADR has achieved great successes during two-year existence and became the first democratic republic in the East. He pointed out that multiculturalism in Azerbaijan has a long history:
“The beginning of the 21st century was characterized by challenging conditions. In the years since independence, the Azerbaijani leadership has taken steps to ensure the security and achieve development under these complex geo-strategic conditions. I think that the country has successfully achieved this. During these years, the country has made progress in the cultural sphere, sports. Mass media is developing in Azerbaijan and it promotes the development of pluralism. More than 2800 NGOs are functioning in Azerbaijan and 7 opposition parties are being represented in the parliament. Over the past 20 years, Azerbaijan has turned into a country that has invested in other states. The poverty declined in the country. This development has not ended, it is currently going on.”
According to Novruz Mammadov, the main principle of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy is the close cooperation basing on mutual interests with neighbors.
