No financial support can replace freedom, independence, Palestinian FM says

Delivering an opening speech, Rector of the Academy Hafiz Pashayev said this visit will boost the relations between Azerbaijan and Palestine.

He said this lecture will allow a better understanding of the Middle Eastern policy and the ongoing events in this region.

In his speech, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad Al Maliki said the international community considers that the situation in Palestine can be improved through financial support, but no financial support can replace the freedom, independence.

“For a long time, the international community has promised to recognize Palestine as an independent state, there is no result yet,” the FM said.

According to him, the presence of a third party in resolution of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is important.

“Without a third party, there will be no progress in the negotiations. It is important to resolve the conflict to restore stability in the region. We shouldn’t negotiate in a constant pace, it can not continue. The international community bears responsibility for the settlement of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. This issue is obvious – we should put an end the aggression and recognize the independence of Palestine,” he said.

The minister said Israel is the only country in the world that had yet failed to determine its borders and occupied Palestinian territories.

“Two million tourists travel to Al-Quds every year, but Palestinians can’t go to this city. However this city is 10 km away from Ramallah,” he said.

Riyad Al Maliki also added that despite Israel’s actions, some countries are protecting and supporting this country.

“During the discussion of recognition of the independence of Palestine in the UN Security Council, Azerbaijan, a non-permanent member of the Council, fully supported us. Therefore, we are grateful to Azerbaijan.”
