Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has called for signing a treaty on the country’s joining the Eurasian Economic Union till June 15, 2014. “I promise that this issue will be discussed in the parliament as soon as possible,” he said
President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev offered to consider Armenia’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union till July 1. The presidents of Russia and Belarus Vladimir Putin and Alexander Lukashenko agreed with him.
APA reports quoting RIA Novosti that Nazarbayev said they received a letter from the President of Azerbaijan: “The letter says that Armenia joined the World Trade Organization with a special provision that WTO rules would be valid within the borders of Armenia recognized by the UN. Azerbaijan considers that agreement on EEU accession must also cover the area within the international borders recognized by UN, like in WTO.”
Armenia officially became the 145th member of the WTO in 2003.
