Lord Kilclooney: A full resumption of hostilities is now a real possibility, with unthinkable consequences for the region but also for Western interests

Baku – APA. British Peer, Lord Kilclooney has called on the UK to increase its support of Azerbaijan. Lord Kilclooney is a representative of the UK delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe and has visited Azerbaijan on several occasions.

He said the UK must do more to help Azerbaijan, the European Azerbaijan Society (TEAS) told APA.

“Once again we have been reminded that the Minsk Group process is not an effective tool for a resolution to the occupation of Azerbaijani territory by the Armenians. Years of largely ineffective efforts have led to one of the bloodiest times since the ceasefire in 1994.

It is almost inevitable that 20 years of inaction has resulted in growing tensions. In this latest round of fighting 14 Azerbaijani soldiers have been killed and 2 civilians who were visiting their parents graves in NK have also been illegally held by the Armenians. A full resumption of hostilities is now a real possibility, with unthinkable consequences for the region but also for Western interests. The UK has to redouble its efforts in pushing for a solution and for the return of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognised territory,” Lord Kliclooney said.
