Iran's new Foreign Ministry spokesperson touches on Iran-Azerbaijan relations

Baku. Real Jafarli – APA. Iran's new Foreign Ministry spokesperson Marzieh Afkham touched on Iran-Azerbaijan relations at her first press conference held for local and foreign journalists today, APA report quoting ISNA.

Marzieh Afkham stated that Iran and Azerbaijan are two Islamic countries that have a common history, culture and religion: “We have always tried to strengthen bilateral relations. We hope that these relations will become even stronger under the new government and we will witness the increase of commercial exchange. We believe that the cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran will be more beneficial than other countries.”

The spokesperson also commented on the replacement of Persian inscriptions in Nizami Ganjavi tomb: “Though Azerbaijanis are trying to do something for the culture, these steps are contrary to culture. If the question is the translation of the poems from Persian into Turkish, this is something new and valuable. On the contrary, if these translations serve provocative and racist goals of certain forces, then they will contradict the culture. I hope that Azerbaijan will pay attention to the development and value of its culture as a part of Iran’s culture.”
