Baku-APA. Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry called on the UK authorities to refrain from irrelevant interference in the internal affairs of Azerbaijan and spend their time and resources to improve the overall human rights situation in their country, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement, APA reports.

Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry refutes the statement of the British Minister for Europe David Lidington and states that no one in Azerbaijan was persecuted for political views.

"Trying to pressure on the judicial system of Azerbaijan for its performances is an indication of how the British minister and Britain refer to the rule of law. In Azerbaijan, where a rule of law is provided completely, any political activities does not release from responsibility," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev commenting on the UK Minister of State for Europe David Lidington’s statement on the court verdict of 6-year prison for human rights activist Hasan Guseynli .

Abdullayev noted that Lidington’s statement is nothing but a political duplicity that declares itself as a herald of human rights in Europe, but closes eyes to hardships that about one million people became refugees and IDPs as a result of Armenian occupation.
