Baku. Anakhanum Idoyatova – APA. “The status quo cannot last too long. International community must do its best to reach the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict within international principles”.
The statement came from Chairman of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso during his speech on the subject titled “The European Union- Azerbaijan: New opportunities and challenges” at the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA), APA reports.
Barroso stressed that the Nagorno-Karabakh problem is a very bitter issue for Azerbaijan: “Peace has not yet been achieved, although 20 years have passed since the ceasefire regime was declared. We want the sides to get to peace and support the OSCE Minsk Group’s work in this direction. We need to do all we can to resolve this issue in line with international principles”.
Mr Barroso said the EU respects Azerbaijan’s sovereign rights, adding that the cooperation is aimed at peace and welfare. The Chairman of the commission also noted that it’s not right to blame the Eurpean Union for the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remaining unresolved, because this conflict was created by other powers.
