Bahar Muradova: â€œWe are trying to draw the world communityâ€™s attention to aggression, but the world makes a different conclusion out of itâ€

Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. “Azerbaijan has already taken over the Chairmanship of CoE Committee of Ministers, the meeting of PACE Standing Committee and Bureau was held in Baku. As for a restrictive decision regarding Azerbaijan, many people can relate it with the attitude to Azerbaijan. But this is no attitude of the Council of Europe to Azerbaijan”.

Vice-Speaker of the Azerbaijani Parliament, Head of the Azerbaijani Delegation to OSCE PA, Bahar Muradova told APA while commenting on PACE’s decision not to hold events in Azerbaijan within two years after PACE Vice-President René Rouquet failed to obtain a visa to visit Azerbaijan.

Muradova noted that Azerbaijan has suffered from an occupation and can not perform the sovereign rights in the occupied lands: “Representatives of several international organizations, officials and parliamentarians of the Council of Europe and different countries regularly visit this region and violate Azerbaijan’s rules and international conventions. Azerbaijan always takes a principal position on these issues. And it declares these persons “persona non grata” and prohibits issuing a visa to Azerbaijan. This is a just position. Also, we are thereby trying to draw the world community’s attention to aggression, Armenia’s aggressive policy, and separatism. Unluckily, the world makes a different conclusion out of it. Instead of adequately assessing one who supports the aggressor, the efforts and actions aimed at justifying the result of aggression, they penalize the one that has suffered from aggression. We can assess the European Council’s last decision the same way. The Council of Europe, the OSCE, and other international organizations need to review their positions regarding this issue”.

Bahar Muradova said there are certain results on the attempts to violate territorial integrity of other countries in the world: “Therefore, positions of world organizations are ambiguous. Who do they support? By the way, if persons who have, knowingly or unknowingly, made an illegal visit to the occupied lands, violating laws of Azerbaijan, and if they appeal to the Azerbaijani government afterwards, admitting that their action was unlawful or explained their reasons for visit, then their names are removed from the black list and they obtain a visa to Azerbaijan. However, some demonstratively evade from making an appeal. International organizations prioritize their independent, unlimited movement in the member countries, but the occupied territories get overshadowed. Many countries support Azerbaijan’s position. We must achieve it through convincing people”.”

“The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly will soon hold a meeting in Baku. Some members of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly visited the occupied territories at different times and their names were blacklisted. However, the members admitted that it is not right and appealed to Azerbaijan in this regard. Their names were removed from the blacklist and these persons will be granted visas to visit Azerbaijan. If other organizations take such steps there will be no problems”.
