Baku – APA. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and Italian President Giorgio Napolitano had an expanded meeting with the participation of delegations in Rome today.
A guard of honor was arranged in honor of Ilham Aliyev outside the Italian presidential palace, APA reports.
Members of the Azerbaijani delegation were introduced to Giorgio Napolitano, while Italian officials to Ilham Aliyev. The presidents posed for official photographs.
Later on, the heads of state held an expanded meeting. The presidents expressed satisfaction with the successful development of relations between Azerbaijan and Italy in political, economic, cultural and other areas. Emphasizing the importance of the relations between the two countries in terms of EU-Azerbaijan cooperation, the sides noted the importance of coordinating the efforts during Azerbaijan’s Chairmanship of the Council of Europe and Italy’s Chairmanship of the European Union.
Underlining the successful development of energy cooperation, they stated that the two countries render support to each other within international organizations.
The sides also exchanged views on the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh, various prospects of Azerbaijan-Italy relations and other issues of mutual interest.
Following the meeting, a dinner was hosted by Napolitano for the Azerbaijani President.
