The Foreign Ministry told APA that Azerbaijan strongly condemns the use of chemical weapons in Syria.
“We thank the UN Mission on investigation of the claims on the use of chemical weapons in Syria for their activities in very difficult conditions in terms of security and politics and for their professionalism,” – says the statement.
Azerbaijan supports the agreement between Russia and the U.S. on the removal of the chemical weapon reserves: “In order to achieve the solution of the Syrian crisis through political means, Azerbaijan is ready for joint activity with all the interested sides in the UN including the Security Council. It is expected that the Executive Council of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons will consider the special procedures on the soonest destruction of Syria's chemical weapons and on the application of tough inspection over it and pass a relevant decision. Azerbaijan has always regarded the Security Council as a body responsible for the direct protection of the international peace and security and considered it necessary to implement its decisions and resolutions."
