Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. The 33rd meeting of the working group on the legal status of the Caspian Sea in Baku has ended APA reports. Addressing a press conference, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov stressed the importance of an early agreement of the fundamental issues regarding the legal status of the Caspian Sea and the execution of protocol decisions passed at the 3rd summit of the Caspian littoral states. Noting that the Baku meeting was successful, he stated that a number of issues still require approval: “Several issues need to be worked on, there is still difference of views.”
At the end of the Baku meeting, the parties agreed to discuss experts’ views on the procedure for determining baselines and present relevant cartographic schemes at the next meeting to be held in Moscow. The participants noted the progresses in agreement of certain provisions of the draft Convention on the Caspian legal status.
The Moscow meeting will be scheduled through diplomatic channels.
