During their meeting, the President and the newly appointed ambassador discussed economic cooperation between Lithuania and Azerbaijan as well as prospects of forging closer relations between Azerbaijan and the European Union.
The President pointed out that Azerbaijan was an important partner of the European Union in building economic contacts and also in the field of energy.
She said that our country was ready to help Azerbaijan develop closer ties with the European Union, adding that Lithuania supported the EU's negotiations on a visa-free regime with Azerbaijan.
Before his appointment, Valdas Lastauskas, a lawyer, worked as acting Chancellor of the Ministry of Energy and Chancellor of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He served as consul in the Lithuanian Embassy in Poland as well as minister-counsellor at the Lithuanian Consulate-General in Kaliningrad and the Lithuanian Embassy in Poland.
