"There was never a chance to recognize the independence of the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic," and there is no chance at present," said Arsen Torosyan, deputy of the ruling Civil Contract faction of Armenia, and former health minister, in an interview with FAKTOR TV, APA reports.
He noted that the status quo after the 44-day war hides some dangers: "Should we live under the constant threat of being killed, or should we end this conflict completely?"
The deputy believes that both Azerbaijanis and Armenians should "heal the wounds" due to the ongoing wars and military conflicts for nearly 30 years and end hostile relations.
"Azerbaijan was also seriously injured in 1994. So, as a result of the war, 25,000 people were sacrificed, and more than 600,000 people were displaced from their homes. So we are not alone, both sides are injured, and these wounds need to be healed. The long-term hostile relations with Azerbaijan are a trap for us, and we must end it."
Torosyan said that since the Armenian state suffered huge losses from this conflict and the idea of recognizing the independence of the so-called "Nagorno-Karabakh Republic,” Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and his team are striving not to use arms in the region again and not to resolve the issue in this way.
