Iranâ€™s visa regime for Azerbaijani citizens came into force from yesterday

Azerbaijani citizens, who will visit Nakhchivan by passing the territory of Iran till August 31, will have to obtain a visa, press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA. The Ministry said that those arriving in Baku from Nakhchivan must address Iranâ€™s consulate in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, those going to Nakhchivan must address the consular division of the Iranian embassy in Baku. The permanent visa regime applied by Iran for Azerbaijani citizens came into force from yesterday. Press service of the Iranian embassy in Azerbaijan told APA that Azerbaijani citizens will not pay visa fee. The copy of the first page of the passport, copy of ID and two photos are required for obtaining a visa.

Iran temporarily restored visa regime for Azerbaijan. The reason of it is Tehranâ€™s hosting of the Summit of head of states of the Non-Aligned Movement this month. Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan. The note says that due to the summit Iran will implement visa regime for the Azerbaijani citizens traveling to Iran from August 5 to 31. The previous visa regime will be restored after this time frame.

APAâ€™s southern bureau reports that nobody passed to the neighboring country with visa from checkpoint of the Astara Customs Office up to now. The Office said that the population of Azerbaijanâ€™s border regions had an opportunity to visit the neighboring country with the facilitated visa that they obtained from regional police stations: â€œNow it is necessary to address Iranian embassy in Azerbaijan and obtain a visa for visiting this country. The determined terms on visa concern the citizens of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Thus, they must obtain a visa from Iranâ€™s consulate for transit passing to this countryâ€.
