UK parliamentarian: â€œThe international community should condemn the fact on the occupation of Azerbaijani sovereign territoriesâ€

Victoria Dementieva â€“ APA. â€œThe international community should condemn the fact on the occupation of Azerbaijanâ€™s sovereign territoriesâ€, member of the UK Parliament, former defense secretary Liam Fox delivered a report on â€œThe changeable threats to the global securityâ€ in the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of Azerbaijan. Fox said that the modern world faced new threats to the security and it is necessary to prevent diversification of energy security, counter-terrorism and nuclear threats. Speaking about the democracy-building Fox noted that it is impossible to achieve it within a day. According to him, the three main steps in establishment of democratic society are free market, transparent legal system and ensuring of fundamental rights: â€œGeorgia can be an example to such change.â€

Fox said that the situation in South Caucasus is not easy and recalled the occupation of territories of Azerbaijan and Georgia. He said that the nuclear program of Iran also impacts the violation of stability in the region: â€œIf Iran becomes a nuclear country, it will create an unstable situation for future generations.â€

According to the former defense secretary, the UK is interested in strengthening of stability in the region: â€œGeorgia and Azerbaijan are our main allies in the establishment of security architecture.â€
