Azerbaijani President: “As a member of the UN Security Council, we will support all initiatives put forward by Tajikistan”

Baku – APA. “This visit of President of Tajikistan to Azerbaijan is an important event in the history of bilateral relations”, said Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev at the media statement following the meeting with President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon.

President Aliyev noted that Azerbaijan and Tajikistan turned into important partner countries during the years of independence and cooperated actively in the international arena. At the same time, the countries cope with important issues on political an economic cooperation. President underlined that the foundation of these relations was laid by Heydar Aliyev and Emomali Rahmon and said that the friendly and fraternal traditions between the peoples were continuing, strengthening and getting a new form: “We cooperate actively in the international organizations and support each other. I would like to thank President of Tajikistan once again for Tajikistan’s support for Azerbaijan’s candidacy to UN Security Council. We highly assessed this support. This support helped us a lot. I would like to say that as a member of the Security Council, we will support all initiatives put forward by Tajikistan.

Saying that both countries cooperated closely within the OIC, the CIS and the other organizations, Azerbaijani President noted that concrete economic projects have been discussed today and the delegations were tasked to prepare new initiatives and proposals on it in a short time.

The Head of State underlined that the economic relations should become more active: “It relates to energy, economic, industrial and investment spheres. There are good opportunities and political will to increase the trade turnover between our countries for several times”.

Noting Tajikistan’s important role in the regional issues in the Central Asia and Azerbaijan’s role in the Caspian region and the Caucasus, the president underlined that effect of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, cooperation in humanitarian sphere and the other issues were discussed at the meeting.

In his turn, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon noted that his country attached special importance to the development of many-branched relations of with Azerbaijan, underlined that historical friendship and common cultural values connected our people.

Emomali Rahmon said that he held negotiations of mutual interest with the Azerbaijani President: “We discussed comprehensive issues of bilateral relations during the negotiations and also exchanged views on the situation in our country and the region and international problems, which worry the both sides. We signed a package of bilateral documents. Among these documents I would like to note the program on economic cooperation between our countries in 2012-2015”.

Rahmon noted that they discussed activity prospects within the UN, OSCE, CIS, OIC and Organization for Economic Co-operation and agreed to continue the political dialogue constantly. At the same time, they underlined the importance of developing the cooperation in economic, trade, transport and transit spheres.
