OSCE Parliamentary Assembly adopts Monaco Final Declaration

APA reports quoting press service of the OSCE PA that Monaco Final Declaration was adopted in the end of the session. Parliamentarians from Europe, Central Asia and North America today approved a political declaration that recommends clear plans of action for governments, parliaments and the world’s largest regional security organization, the OSCE, to address human rights, military transparency and the global economic crisis.

The Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly Monaco Declaration demands the release of all political prisoners and calls for countries leading the OSCE to "set the standard" on human rights. The Assembly focused considerable attention on the situation in Ukraine, which takes over as chair of the OSCE in January 2013.

The political issues and security sections of the document expressed deep regret that unresolved conflicts still exist in the OSCE area, leading to the emergency of new tensions and triggering further human suffering, as well as hampering socio-economic development and prospects for prosperity. The OSCE PA called al members to play an active role for peaceful settlement of the conflicts and to reconcile the conflict sides.

25 resolutions, including resolutions on the situation in Georgia and Iran’s nuclear program were adopted within the plenary session.
