Baku â€“ APA. Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy (ADA) started its annual Baku Summer Energy School (BSES) on July 7. ADA told APA that the BSES is a certificate program of ADA and is held in partnership with the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR). The two week program is bringing together world-renowned scholars, academicians and policy makers to examine global energy and environment issues and their practical application.

This summer, as many as 42 participants from 17 different countries is taking part at the BSES. The participants come from Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Germany, India, Iraq, Israel, Italy, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the United States.

The summer school will study a wide range of energy issues, including but not limited to: fundamentals of energy, energy law, energy economics, revenue and resource management and environmental issues. The body of faculty members for the summer school is quite diverse and consists of world-renowned academicians from such universities and organizations as Texas A&M University, University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), University of Haifa, French Petroleum Institute, NATO; practitioners from oil companies ExxonMobil, State Oil Company of Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), SOFAZ, BP, Total, Schlumberger; as well as the professors of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy. High level speakers from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Minister of Energy and Industry, Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan will also speak to the summer school participants.

The cultural part of the program will offer excursions to unique sites connected to Azerbaijanâ€™s oil and gas industry of the past and present, such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, the Sangachal oil terminal, petrocliffs in Gobustan, Mud Volcanoes, and the museums of Azerbaijanâ€™s first oil baron, Haji Zeynalabidin Tagiyev and the world-renowned Nobel Brothers.

The 2012 Baku Summer Energy School is sponsored by the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic and ExxonMobil.
