Azerbaijani President meets President of European Council

APA reports that President Ilham Aliyev welcomed Herman Van Rompuy.

Azerbaijani state and government officials were introduced to Herman Van Rompuy, while members of the EU delegation to President Ilham Aliyev.

A guard of honor passed in front of the presidents.

A large meeting of Azerbaijani and EU presidents was held after the official welcoming ceremony.

President Ilham Aliyev underlined that Van Rompuyâ€™s visit to Azerbaijan showed the significance of Azerbaijanâ€™s partnership and friendship with the EU.

The Head of State expressed confidence that this visit would be very significant and productive and would create a pleasant impression on him.

In his turn, Herman Van Rompuy said that this visit would create favorable conditions for discussion of issues of strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and EU in energy and the other spheres.

The presidents made statement for media after the meeting at presence of delegations.
