According to him, during Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s visit to Azerbaijan in 2008, no agreement was signed between the sides: “At the same time Turkmenistan put forward concrete proposals to resolve the disputable issue. Unfortunately, Azerbaijan didn’t respond to these initiatives”.

Acting Minister noted that Turkmenistan had repeatedly addressed Azerbaijan and demanded to stop work in the in the areas of Caspian Sea, the jurisdiction of which has not been determined yet – “Omar” and “Osman” fields: “The work carried out by AIOC Consortium, BP, Socar, Chevron, Exxon mobile, Hess, Inpex, Itochu, Statoil and TPAO in the areas of the Caspian Sea, the jurisdiction of which has not been determined yet, is contrary to the international legal norms”.

In this situation, Turkmenistan has no choice but file an action with UN International Court against Azerbaijan.

Turkmenistan claims that the meridian line that is determined by the principles and norms of the international maritime rights and protested by Baku, cross from 51 degrees 10 minutes east longitude: “In this respect, “Sardar” field is situated absolutely in Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea. That’s why a splash made by Azerbaijani media outlets doesn’t contribute to the strengthening of Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan friendly relations. Turkmenistan deeply regrets it”.
