Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. “Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied the reports of Iranian press that Baku was informed about the crimes of two Azerbaijani poets – Farid Huseyn and Shahriyar Del Gerani arrested in Iran. According to APA, Spokesman for the Foreign Ministry Elman Abdullayev said that neither Azerbaijani embassy in Iran nor our consulate general in Tabriz received information concerning it.

Iranian Tabnak and Aran websites claimed that the above-mentioned Azerbaijani poets were accused of drug trafficking and spying for Israel. According to information, the poets are drug traffickers from Russia to Europe: “They confessed that they were spying for Mossad. The documents on accusations brought against them were sent to Baku”. It is considered as the gravest crime and poets can be sentenced to death.

Abdullayev said that such false reports have negative effects on relations between the two countries. Azerbaijan sent the next note to Iran due to Iran’s refusal to respond to Azerbaijan’s questionnaire concerning the destiny of Azerbaijani poets. Abdullayev noted that Azerbaijan continues its efforts to meet with the detained citizens: “Such issues are regulated by Vienna Convention. This issue is a priority for us and we continue our attempts to meet with our citizens”.
He said that the reports of Iranian press about the accusal of the Azerbaijani poets of drug trafficking and spying for Israel are baseless and such reports are directed to confuse people and form a negative atmosphere.
