PACE Monitoring Committee holds discussions on Azerbaijan

Seyidov said that today’s negotiations were held very constructively: “Very important issues were discussed at the Monitoring Committee’s meeting today and the committee members addressed after listening my and Mr. Agramunt’s speech. The general opinion was that the preparation of report inside the Monitoring Committee is implemented in normal and objective form. There are a big non-objectiveness, incorrect issues, and even preconceived issues in the classification of political prisoners concept and the other reports about political prisoners in Azerbaijan presented by Mr. Strasser in the Assembly’s Committee on Human Rights. It is possible to prevent it only by one way, it is Azerbaijan’s continuation its work with PACE Monitoring Committee at high level. The Monitoring Committee is interested in it and pressures against co-rapporteurs on Azerbaijan in the Committee are assessed as an inadmissible treatment. The necessity of delivering the objective, real and positive progresses in Azerbaijan in a short time was noted at the meetingâ€.
Seyidov said that Azerbaijan made one more contribution to Europe’s energy security by signing the agreement with Turkey on TANAP project: “Very constructive relations were created in the Monitoring Committee. The co-rapporteurs will visit the country in October and their report will be likely discussed in PACE’s winter session. If the preparation of report doesn’t end till January-April months, the document must be discussed in the organization’s spring session, because according to PACE procedures, the report must be presented to the organization’s plenary session within two yearsâ€.
