Portuguese FM: â€œThe territorial integrity is a main principle providing the harmonyâ€

Dunal Gurbanov â€“ APA. â€œPortugal and Azerbaijan have the similar position on the processes ongoing in the worldâ€, said Azerbaijani Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov at the joint briefing with Portuguese Foreign Minister Paolo Portas, APA reports. Reminding that he held both one-on-one and large meetings with his counterpart, Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan and Portugal are non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. He said that they also discussed Syria, Iran and the other regional issues.

Mammadyarov said that he informed the guest about Nagorno Karabakh conflict. According to him, economic issues were also discussed at the meeting: â€œWe decided that the legal basis of economic issues must be extended and strengthened. Azerbaijan and Portugal should establish a joint commission, sign cultural and tourism agreements and extend relations in humanitarian sphere. This is a historical visit and new stage will be opened in our relationsâ€.

Portuguese Foreign Minister Paolo Portas said that the meeting was held at a high level. Minister declared that Azerbaijan and Portugal had same positions on the processes ongoing in the world: â€œPortugalâ€™s position on adopted documents concerning the Nagorno Karabakh conflict is clear. The territorial integrity is a main principle providing the harmony. I support the diplomatic settlement of the conflict, because the diplomats find a political solution of the problemsâ€.
