Ali Hasanov: â€œTANAP is a transnational gas export project realized on initiative and leadership of Azerbaijanâ€

Baku. Kamala Guliyeva â€“ APA â€œThe Trans-Anatoly Gas Pipeline Project (TANAP), which was signed between Turkey and Azerbaijan, is a transnational gas export project realized on initiative and leadership of Azerbaijanâ€, head of public policy department of the Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov told APA. He said that to transport gas resources from the Caspian Sea to the world market has been one of the actual problems of the world for a long time: â€œThe negotiations on this issue have been held for years. The realization of Nabucco gas pipeline on the initiative of the European Union is on the agenda. But unfortunately, despite the negotiations on these projects have been held for years, there is no real result so far. Today, the fate of Nabucco doesnâ€™t create optimistic mood in some circles. Azerbaijan is the main initiator of alternative oil export from the Caspian Sea to the world market. Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan has been realized on the initiative of Azerbaijan and currently, every year more than 40 mln tones of oil are being transported to the world market. Azerbaijan was an initiator of this project as well. It is a perfect and reliable project up to now to transfer additional gas, which Azerbaijan gains from the second phase of Shahdeniz field, in generally from the projects realized in the basin of the Caspian Sea, to the world market.â€

Hasanov announced that Turkey is the main partner of Azerbaijan in TANAP project: â€œTurkey is the main country, which supports Azerbaijan in this project. According to the agreement signed between the two countries yesterday, Azerbaijani gas, which was produced in the Caspian Sea, will be directly transferred to the European markets via Turkey from its border with Georgia until the borders with Europe. All conditions of transportation, realization of the project and composition of consortium aside the project were agreed with Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan saves its leading position in these processes.â€

Department chief said that TANAP is an additional support to the fraternal relations existing between Turkey and Azerbaijan in social, economic and the other spheres. â€œSince 1994, Azerbaijan under the leadership of nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev has chosen the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil and Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipelines as the most reliable routes for transportation of the countryâ€™s energy resources to the European markets. I consider that TANAP is an important strategic project for ensuring energy security in the region and Europe, implemented jointly by Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey. This project confirms strategic meaning of relations between the three countries once again.â€
