President Ilham Aliyev receives Portuguese foreign minister

Baku â€“ APA. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has received today the Portuguese delegation led by Foreign Minister Paolo Portas. The Head of State said he hoped that the visit of the Portuguese foreign minister to Azerbaijan would open a new stage in the development of bilateral relations between the countries. President Ilham Aliyev said he believed that the meetings held by Portas in our country would be useful and this visit would create good opportunities for determination of main directions of the bilateral cooperation. He underlined the existence of great potential for the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and Portugal and establishing strong partnership relations.

Minister Portas delivered greetings by the President of Portugal Anibal Cavaco Silva. He also underlined the good opportunities for the development of relations between the countries and importance of cooperation at the UN Security Council. He said Portugal would open its embassy in Azerbaijan soon. Paolo Portas said his country was interested in the development of relations with Azerbaijan in various fields, including political, economic, agriculture and tourism.

The settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, cooperation with the European Union and other issues were discussed at the meeting.

President Aliyev thanked for the greetings of Portuguese president and asked to deliver his greetings to him.
