APA European bureau reports that the Committee adopted a draft resolution on the report on political prisoners in Azerbaijan made by the German parliamentarian Christopher Strasser.

Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE Samed Seyidov told journalists that 25 parliamentarians supported the document, but 23 voted against and the report was adopted.

The two reports will be discussed in the autumn session of the PACE.

Speaking about discussions in the committee Seyidov said that many people in the Committee showed their concrete position on Azerbaijan. The voting showed that some deputies supported the position of Azerbaijan. Such attitude in the committee shows that now many deputies supported us than previous years. The two reports, which will be adopted by the committee, will be discussed in the autumn session of the PACE and we will show our position here. Serious discussions will be held in autumn.”

Seyidov also said that these discussions are indicator of double standards: “The important fact is that the one of the significant committees of the Council of Europe Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights understands that there is double standard approach here. I have never seen such discord here. Several items have been removed from the document. I say again that it is a pressure of the Council of Europe against Azerbaijan.”
