SOCAR expresses position on Kepez field that caused diplomatic scandal between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan

According to him, though the agreements on division of the Caspian Sea into the sectors were signed between Azerbaijan and Russia, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan and Russia and Kazakhstan, the agreement hasnâ€™t been achieved yet between Azerbaijan and Iran and Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan: â€œThatâ€™s why the Kepez field is considered disputable and hasnâ€™t been exploited yetâ€.

Gasimov said that though Azerbaijan made proposals to exploit this field jointly, this issue remained open until the full end of the division.

He said that the start of operation by Turkmenistan in that field during the visit of Turkmenistanâ€™s president to Iran caused regret: â€œUnfortunately, it was attempted to conduct geophysical works here during the visit of Turkmenistanâ€™s president to Iranâ€.

Gasimov reiterated Azerbaijani Foreign Ministryâ€™s position and said that he assessed these works as a violation of Azerbaijani borders and carrying out works inside the country.
