Following intense questioning about his priorities and the situation in the region, pro-Armenian Senators Robert Menendez and Barbara Boxer also supported Morningstar’s candidacy.

APA reports quoting the Armenian National Committee of Armenia that answering the questions of Menendez and Boxer, Ambassador Morningstar reiterated the calls by Secretary Clinton urging all sides to “exercise restraint, comply with their obligations under the 1994 ceasefire agreement, and take the steps necessary for peace.” He said if confirmed, he would work with U.S. Minsk Group Co-Chair Robert Bradtke.

Ambassador Morningstar pledged to visit the Armenian cemetery at Julfa region of Azerbaijan.

Earlier Boxer and Menendez impeded the approval of Matthew Bryza to the post of US Ambassador to Azerbaijan. According to the procedure, Morningstar should win total approval by the Senate.
