OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media sends letter to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA. The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media,Dunja Mijatović expressed concern over the adoption by the Azerbaijani parliament on June 12 of amendments to the laws “On Receiving Information,” “On the State Registry and the State Registration of Juridical Persons,” and “On Commercial Secrets”. APA reports that in a letter sent to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Mijatović said that the changes will make certain types of information no longer accessible to the public.

She also expressed concern over detainment of photo blogger Mehman Huseynov and imprisonment of Iranian “Sahar” TV’s journalist Anar Bayramli to 2-years imprisonment.

She called on the authorities to do their utmost to reverse these recent negative developments: “My Office stands ready to assist Azerbaijan in better fulfilling its media freedom commitments”.
