Araz Azimov: The fact that Matthew Bryza is not approved as an ambassador, raises some questions

APA’s correspondent reports that, Mr. Azimov addressed top Washington officials, analysts and civil society members regarding the US-Azeri relations, regional developments and the outlook of the Karabakh negotiations.


He said, if Ambassador Bryza returns back from his current Baku position because of the Senate’s fail, that will strongly urge the US diplomats to think over which policy they have to implement: A policy of the US President, of some Senators and lobby members?

Mr. Azimov said, Azerbaijan values its relations with the US and the cooperation between the two countries develop year by year.

Speaking about the Narogno-Karabakh conflict, deputy minister mentioned that Azerbaijan has sad feelings of effectiveness of the peace negotiations. In the meanwhile, he said, there is no reason to change or reformat the moderation mechanism.

He also called on co-chairs of the Minsk Group to be more responsible in their statements regarding the peace process.
According to Mr. Azomov, Azerbaijan remains interested in integrating to the Euro-Atlantic institutions and contributing the European peace and energy stability.

He also talked about the 20th years anniversary of foreign policy of Azerbaijan, mentioning that, despite all of the foreign pressures former President Haydar Aliyev decided to firmly move the country into the Euro-Atlantic track.

Besides that Azimov mention that Azerbaijan’s new membership in the UN Security Council, which will start as of January 1st, creates an important opportunity for the country’s diplomacy.

After the conference Mr. Azimov went to a meeting with the Pentagon officials.
