Washington. Isabel Levine-APA. Araz Azimov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, will address top Washington officials, analysts and civil society regarding the US-Azeri relations, regional developments and the outlook of the Karabakh negotiations on December 22, APA’s correspondent reports.
Mr. Azimov, who currently visits the US capital, will speak at the Dinu Patriciu Eurasia Center of Atlantic Council event, which will be moderated by former US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Ross Wilson.
“Azerbaijan’s strategic location between Europe, Middle East, Central Asia, and Iran, as well as its current and growing role as a hydrocarbon exporter—particularly in light of the October 25 agreement between Azerbaijan and Turkey on gas—makes it a key partner of the United States”, say the organizers of the event.
According to the Atlantic Council statement, cooperation on energy development and infrastructure dominated US-Azeri relations in the 1990s, and since 2001, Baku has given strong and practical support to Coalition efforts in Afghanistan both as a troop contributor and a key transit country.
“Yet efforts to deepen ties have run up against challenges, including with respect to the unresolved conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh”.
For Washington analysts today’s discussion with Ambassador Azimov is an excellent opportunity to access the US-Azerbaijan relations and the regional development.
