Mexican Senate adopts resolution recognizing genocide committed by Armenians in Khojaly

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, the resolution says that on February 26, 1992 Armenian armed forces attacked the civil population of Khojaly town located in the Nagorno Karabakh region of Azerbaijan and killed hundreds of people for their ethnicity during the event that called by the international human rights organizations as genocide.

The resolution also describes the process of the settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict and main point of the Madrid principles, as well as condemns the occupation of Azerbaijani lands by Armenia and emphasized the importance of return of internally displaced persons and refugees to their homeland.

Having the full respect to the sovereignty of Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples, the Chamber of Deputies call the governments of Azerbaijan and Armenia to make efforts to achieve sustainable agreement to end the conflict in the Nagorno Karabakh region in a shortest and accelerating way and in possible format and the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group to continue support of both governments for sustainable peaceful solution to the conflict.

The resolution says although 10 years have passed since the massacre in Khojaly, the victims of the massacre have not yet achieved justice and it shows that the central element for the peace agreement must be found soon, as well as relations between the people must be restored and harmony must be established between the two societies as soon as possible.
