"This bill directly targets the Turkish Republic, the Turkish nation and the Turkish community living in France and it is hostile," Erdogan said in a letter sent to Sarkozy, according to the Anatolia news agency.
Passage of the measure would have “perilous†results for the two countries’ political, economic and cultural ties, Erdogan said in his letter and added that the Turkish-French relations can not be depend on the will of the third part. “This is very serious and sensitive issue. Rational thoughts should overcome the political games. I hope you will stand by promises to prevent the bill from becoming lawâ€, Erdogan said.
The bill criminalizing denial of the made-up “Armenian genocide†will be put to vote at the French parliament on December 22.
