“There was a lot of direct and indirect calls for greater EU involvement into Nagorno-Karabakh solution”, he said and added that the EU really committed to support the peace process. He reminded that this year C. Ashton appointed new Special Representative Ambassador Lefort, who has specific mandate to generate some support to the Minsk process. “I think, this is a clear and strong signal from Madam Ashton to show that EU interested in resolution of this conflict. She decided to continue the post and even to focus his mandate on the conflict. Is a signal that EU is answering the request of Azerbaijan and some others to be more active in this. We are not in the Minsk Group, we don’t have a chair we can just stand around the Minsk group and try to support.”
Ambassador added that the EU recognizes that status-quo in this conflict is not acceptable any more and lasting and peaceful solution of this conflict to be reached.
«We are very committed to it and I think in 2012 we will see a strong EU engagement in supporting the process of the peaceful resolution of Nagorno-Karabakh”, R. Kobia said.
