Azerbaijan joins UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict

Azerbaijan’s Permanent Delegation to UNESCO told APA that Azerbaijan was elected at the regular meeting of the countries-members of the 1954 Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict and its Second Protocol at the UNESCO headquarters today. Belgium, the Netherlands, Croatia, Japan and El Salvador also joined the Committee today.
Azerbaijan’s influence is increasing year by year. The country joins different internal and intergovernmental institutions of UNESCO, successfully fulfills its obligations in the executive boards of the organization. These are indications of political achievements of Azerbaijan.
UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict is an institutional body established by the 1999 Second Protocol. The Committee is composed of 12 States Parties to the Second Protocol. Its main tasks focus primarily on monitoring the implementation of the Second Protocol and managing the system of enhanced protection. The next meeting of the Committee will be held on December 14-16, 2011 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.
