Khalaf Khalafov: Azerbaijan and Russia may sign a new agreement on Gabala radar

Baku. Nijat Mustafayev – APA. “The term of the agreement on the lease of Gabala radar to Russia will expire next year. Azerbaijan and Russia should hold talks on the extension of the agreement. The term of the agreement may be extended, extended through amendments, or may not be extended at all. A new agreement is not ruled out,” Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov said, APA reports.

Deputy Foreign Minister said the agreement will cover the major conditions.
“The increase of the price of lease is also on the agenda. It will also be considered. The proposals on modernization will be also discussed,” he said.

Khalaf Khalafov said all issues will be covered by a unique document.

Noting that Azerbaijani and Russian defense ministries are holding talks on Gabala radar, Deputy Minister said the talks will be launched on the governmental level. Deputy Minister said the current talks are consultative.

To the question “Can data be transferred from the radar station to the third country, i.e. Armenia?” Khalaf Khalafov said:
“According to the present agreement, the data are transferred from the radar station after being agreed with the Azerbaijani side. The data can not be transferred to the third side without Azerbaijan’s permission.”
