Japanese parliament holds meeting on 20th anniversary of Azerbaijan’s independence

Baku-APA. A meeting entitled “The Republic of Azerbaijan – example of rapid development within 20 years” dedicated to the 20th anniversary of restoration of Azerbaijan’s state independence was held in Japanese Parliament on the initiative of Azerbaijani embassy in Japan. Press service of the Foreign Ministry told APA that the Japanese MPs, including members of Azerbaijan-Japan inter-parliamentary friendship league, representatives of Japanese Foreign Ministry participated in the meeting.

In his speech, Japanese co-chair of Azerbaijan-Japan inter-parliamentary friendly league Akira Amari reminded the first visit of national leader Heydar Aliyev to Japan on February 24-28 in 1998, underlined that this visit give an impetus to the development of bilateral relations, the official visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Japan on March 7-10 in 2006 opened new page to the cooperation, and also reminded the meeting held between chairman and members of Azerbaijan-Japan inter-parliamentary friendship league.

The ambassador Gursel Ismayilzadeh spoke about Azerbaijan’s successes over the last 20 years, as well as implementation of social, political, economic spheres. He noted that Azerbaijan turned into democratic state having stabile political system.

Ismayilzadeh informed on Azerbaijan’s economy, energy policy, various projects considered and implemented in our country, as well as successes achieved in recent years. He noted our country’s role in the ensuring world energy security and realized and future energy projects. Besides, he underlined that Azerbaijani government attached special importance to the development of non-oil sector, and noted the existence of wide opportunities in industrial, tourism, agricultural, alternative energy spheres.

During the meeting it was noted that Azerbaijan set himself right as a reliable partner and the election of our country to the non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council was an example of it. At the same time, the ambassador informed about Armenia’s aggression against Azerbaijan, the occupation of 20% of Azerbaijan’s territories. He noted Armenia’s non-constructive position on Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the non-fulfillment of resolutions adopted by the international organizations including the UN Security Council.

Then the ambassador noted the tourism sphere and spoke about different projects implemented for the development of tourism and the video tape reflecting our country’s history and culture, tourism sphere was showed.

Then in his speech, Director of Central Asia and Caucasus Division of the Japanese Foreign Ministry Masaki Ikegami underlined that Azerbaijan was a leader of region for its economic indicators and advanced Armenia and Georgia. He also said that he participated in the meeting of Azerbaijan-Japan economic commission on November 22-23 and spoke about the meeting. He said that he was in our country for the first time in 1995 and underlined that he witnessed the high-level development of Azerbaijan during the 16 years.

In his speech, Secretary General of Azerbaijan-Japan Inter-parliamentary Friendship Group Akihiro Ohata said that Azerbaijan was very important country for Japan in the region.
