APA reports that it has not been officially registered yet, but was allowed to work. The institute started to implement several projects, including Young Leaders Program. The documents required for NDI’s official state registration is being considered by Azerbaijani Justice Ministry. The corresponding legal procedures will be finished in the nearest future and the organization will be officially registered.
The US National Democratic Institute had to stop its activity in Azerbaijan in March this year. In that time, NDI needed to be re-registered because of new registration rules for international NGOs. Therefore NDI’s office in Azerbaijan froze its activity.
NDI is an organization working for strengthening of democratic institutes in the world, ensure of transparent elections, increase of citizen activity and other directions.
NDI has been functioning in Azerbaijan since 1995.
