APA reports quoting “Novosti-Armenia” agency that the Declaration underlines the importance of peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict.

Cyril said that the sides supported the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs: “We speak about the importance of the support of non-use of force. It gives an opportunity to look at the peaceful settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict optimistically”.

Cyril reminded that the religious leaders had previously put forward an initiative on the return of captives and deceased: “We add to this initiative our persistent appeal to the leaderships of both countries for withdrawal of snipers from the frontline and for the prevention of bloodshed and losses. Non-use of force must also comprise this important measure”.

According to the Patriarch, if the bloodshed is stopped, the moral and psychological atmosphere will change and new perspectives will open for the peaceful settlement of the problem: “We respect the participation of Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders in the negotiation process and pray for the improvement of relations between the leaderships and peoples of the two countries step by step”.
