Iran sends note of protest to Azerbaijan

A note of protest concerning the armed incident on Azerbaijan-Iran borders was submitted to the ambassador. Akhundov expressed regret for the incident and said he would deliver the note to the government of Azerbaijan.

The violation of the border was observed on Azerbaijan-Iran border near Aranli village of Bilasuvar region at 14.00 on October 19. Extra frontier guards were involved to prevent the violation of border, search was organized. The trespasser dressed as a serviceman moving towards the territory of Azerbaijan was seen 1200 far from the state border, despite the warning and refusing to obey the law he attacked the frontier guards. The frontier guard opened fire, the trespasser was wounded, he was given first medical aid and taken hospital. The trespasser died in hospital.

The Iranian side was immediately informed about the incident.

The name of the trespasser, who was killed on Azerbaijan-Iran border, has been made public. Law-enforcement bodies told APA that the trespasser was 20-year-old serviceman of the Border Troops of the Islamic Republic of Iran Akbar Hasanpour. His body has been handed over to the Iranian side on October 20.
